Monday – Rhythm ‘n’ Rhyme (12:30-1:00pm)

Children with rhythm achieve better at school. Rhythm assists children in acquiring the pattern of language and so enhances their ability to learn to read and write. Many aspects of learning require rhythm, for example; walking, dancing, co-ordination, writing, cutting, drawing, hammering  etc.

Rhythm 'n' Rhyme will assist in giving your child an advantage during learning at primary school through KS1 and KS2 where music is part of the creative development of your child.  Creative development is highlighted as one of the key areas of learning at a foundation or pre-school stage.

• Our sessions also support, strengthen and enhance other areas of learning and development (as identified by the DCFS guidance for foundation stage):

• Personal, social and emotional - your children will learn and grow with others in a supportive, encouraging and friendly environment. Taking turns, working together, sharing and making new friends. Improve self confidence and have fun .

• Communication, language and literacy - engaging in speech, song, talking and listening , hearing new words in descriptive ways, listening for rhymes (phonics) gives a foundation for reading , writing and communicating skills. Research shows that doing actions to music can help with brain development and memory. Dancing allows you to express yourself in a non-verbal way.

• Mathematical development - counting together , working out beats, rhythms and music patterns, matching sounds will aid numeracy skills.

Knowledge and understanding of the world - discovering instruments, songs about family, transport, animals, the weather, you name it! We also explore a range of culturally diverse music which links in with citizenship themes too.

• Physical development - our creative hand action, movement, parachute and instrument activities improve spatial awareness, co-ordination, fine and gross motor skills.

Our sessions bring together all aspects of balanced development, and as well as these benefits, it paves the way for a lifelong love of music.
